Battery-biting dog blamed for starting small Brookfield blaze
A mischievous dog gets the blame for starting a small house fire in northeast Missouri.
It happened on Monday at a home in Brookfield.
The Brookfield Fire Department was called to the residence because it was mysteriously filled with smoke.
A review of the home's security footage (see video in Facebook attachment below) revealed that the fire was caused by a dog puncturing a lithium-ion battery with its teeth.
A dog on the couch was chewing on the battery when it exploded, and the battery was propelled across the room.
It appears to bounce off the TV screen.
The commotion startled a dog that was lying in the corner of the room, and it knocked over a vacuum cleaner when it ran to the other side of the room.
Meanwhile, a cat makes a beeline for the pet door in the corner where the dog had been lying.
The homeowner's daughter was the only one home when all this happened.
She was able to quickly put out the flames that had caught the living room couch on fire.
The Brookfield Fire Department said when lithium-ion batteries are compromised and exposed to moisture, they can react violently as happened in home security footage.
No pets or people were hurt in the incident.
The dog that bit the battery has been checked out and is fine.
