Sep 29, 2023SERMATEC Installs a 5.1 MW Energy Storage System in Bulgaria - energynews
SERMATEC has commissioned a 5.1 MW/17.8 MWh energy storage system in Bulgaria, aimed at the commercial and industrial sectors. This project seeks to enhance the efficiency of solar power production and balance energy supply and demand on the local grid.
The installation addresses challenges posed by excess solar power generation. Without adequate storage capacity, the energy produced during the day was often wasted, forcing operators to purchase electricity from the grid at night. The new system allows excess energy to be stored, reducing energy costs and increasing the autonomy of photovoltaic installations.
The system includes 48 storage units from SERMATEC’s EasyCube 372kWh series. Each unit is equipped with 3.2 V 280 Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, providing a total storage capacity of more than 6.5 million kWh per year. The system has a conversion efficiency of 99% and an expected lifespan of more than 15 years.
These modular cabinets are designed to optimize space usage and ensure operational flexibility. The design allows for easy integration with existing infrastructures and simplifies system maintenance.
The system incorporates an energy management system (EMS) developed by SERMATEC, which combines photovoltaic production with energy storage. The EMS manages the use of stored energy during periods of high demand and low solar production. Additionally, a cloud platform enables real-time performance monitoring of the system, facilitating efficient and proactive resource management.
A battery management system (BMS) has also been developed by SERMATEC to ensure safety and extend battery life. This system controls charge and discharge parameters, ensuring optimal and safe use of the storage batteries.
The deployment of this energy storage system contributes to the stabilization of the electricity grid in Bulgaria. By reducing fluctuations caused by variable solar energy production, the system improves the reliability and resilience of the grid. Furthermore, this initiative supports the transition to renewable energy sources by providing an efficient and sustainable storage solution.
The investment in this project reflects SERMATEC’s commitment to delivering advanced technical solutions to meet growing energy needs and sustainability requirements.
